Diocesan Catechetical Centre
The Catechesis of children,
young people and adults aims at teaching
them to meditate on the Word of God
in personal prayer, practising it in
liturgical prayer and internalizing
it at all times in order to bear fruit
in a new life. CCC 2688
The vision for catechesis that the Catechism
outlines is the vision that the Derry
Diocesan Catechetical Centre tries to
make a reality. This catechesis primarily
takes place in the home - the first
school of faith. The home is supported
by the Catholic school and the parish
community. The parish community is built
up effectively when the families in
the parish are strong and when faith
is lived and celebrated.
For faith to grow and parish communities
to flourish practical measures need
to be put in place. In a rapidly changing
world and Church it is necessary to
meet the challenges of today with the
message of the Gospel proclaimed in
a simple, enthusiastic way that allows
especially the young to engage with
it and see the necessity of it in their
lives.
